September 11-13th- we will be playing a couple of music games that will help the students work together to complete certain tasks.
Week of September 17th We will be singing and doing activities within their individual grade music text books.
Fifth Grade will be learning about Gloria Estafan and comparing versions of her hit “Get on your Feet!”
Fourth Grade will be doing activities with the song “Turn the Beat Around” and learning sign language for the song “Put a little Love in your heart”
Third Grade will be doing a song from the movie “Mary Poppins” and learning what dynamic markins are.
K grade will be continuing learning a variety of songs with movements.
First Grade- will be doing activities with their name to the alphabet song and start to focus on difference between melody and rhythm
Second Grade will be learning an African American Spiritual and focusing on the call and response form.
Week of September 24th-
In grades 3-5 we will be talking about basic notation terms and start to learn our letter names of the treble clef.
In grades 1-2, we will be talking about contrast and working with antonyms.
Grade K is having fun learning new songs as well as reviewing ones that have been learned already!
Week of Oct 1- Grades 1-2 will be listening to the second part in the “Carnival of the Animals” The Hens and Rooster Song.
Grades 3-5 will be listening and learning about rap. Students are invited to bring in their own Cd’s as long as the song has good language and messages!
Week of Oct 9th- All grades will be playing a circle game that will help with their listening skills and will be focusing on steady beat.
Week of Oct 16th-Grade 5 will be doing a lesson on the Addams Family theme song and talking about what a syphonic poem is.
Grade 4 will be going the song from “Little Shop of Horrors”
Grade 3 will be doing some songs about pumpkins and talking about different kids on notes
Grade 2 will be learning doing a song and learning about what a music conversation is, talking about dynamics and writing their own conversations with two characters.
Grade 1 will be doing some festive songs with some tricky movements.
Grade K will be doing a lot of fun festive songs for the season.
Week of Oct 23rd-3rd-5th grade will be learning about note values and Basic Fractions and while the 1st and 2nd learn about soft and loud through some theory worksheets.
Week of November 5th- Many of the classes will get to try out their dance ability by having a turn at the American Idol Dance Pad.
Week of November 13th-5th grade will be doing some pattern dances to a couple of songs like “Lean on Me”.The fourth grade will be doing a game song about weevils! The third grade will be doing an African American Spiritual called “Why won’t you Sit Down!”The second grade will be doing a song and dance from Ecuador.The first grade will be doing a high/low dance,a step and statue activity and a thanksgiving song. The Kindergarten are still working on a variety of songs each week.
Week of November 26th-The first and second grade will be learning about form and Geometric shapes while the 3rd through 5th grade learn about adding notes or fractions.
Week of January 7th-The first and second will continue to listen to an excerpt from Carnival of the Animals. The 3rd through 5th grade will be doing a writing assignment after listening to the style of the month-Country!
Week of January 14th- Ist grade will be working on melodic direction, Second will be working on call and response and 3rd grade will be working on songs learning the terms moderato and allergro. The fourth grade will be doing the song Lion Sleeps tonight and contrasting another song that is similiar and the fifth grade will be doing yacky Yack and learning about the time that this song was popular.
Week of January 21st- All grades will be learning a jump rope rhyme to learn the values of the notes and seeing who can jump the most!
Week os January 28th- First and Second grade will be doing some theory work learning about melody and 3rd through 5th grade will be learning about dynamics.
Week of February 4th-The 3rd, 4th and 5th grade will be listening to the style of Broadway music and the 1st and second grade will be listening to the next two selections in the Carnival of theAnimals-the elephant and kangeroos!
Week of February 11th -The Fifth grade will be working on an Elvis song while the 4th grade learns about the form of Rondo. The third and first grade will be doing some songs for Valentines day and the Second grade will be learning a pattern dance.
Week of February 18th-All the grades will be learning a jump rope rhyme about music notes and seeing how many times they can jump the rope!
Week of February 25th-The first and Second Grade will be doing a theory worksheet about Brass instruments and 3rd-5th grade will be making and guessing rhythms using popsicle sticks!
All the Kindergarten classes are continuing to learn two song for a presentation in April and singing a lot of their favorites every week!
Weeks of March 3rd and 10th- All the kindergarten and first grades will be coming together and an activity will be planned by one of the specialist. 2nd-5th-The days that are not DSTP, they will have a listening prompt or be listening to two selections of Carnival of the Animals. On the days that are DSTP, they will be playing musical circles or limbo.
Week of March 17th- Ist and second will be doing worksheets on the family of instruments while the older grades will be creating rhythms with popsicle sticks!
